George Bassett founded Bassett’s in Sheffield, England in 1842 and it is considered to be one of the oldest confectionery heritages in the UK.
Bassett’s are famous for their Liquorice Allsorts (a combination which was discovered by accident in 1899 when a salesman dropped his sample display on the floor causing a previously uninterested buyer to agree to purchase the new mix).
Bassett’s Jelly Babies are another famous Bassett’s product having come into existence in 1918 to celebrate the end of the First World War. They were originally known, as Peace Babies but following a stoppage in production during the Second World War, were re-launched as Jelly Babies in 1953. The ‘babies’ all have individual colours and names (Brilliant, Bubbles, Baby Bonny, Bigheart and Bumper).
