What's the difference between 'Use By' and 'Best Before'?

• Use By: For safety, foods with a Use By date must be eaten or discarded by the date shown.
• Best Before: This date relates to quality, not safety. In line with NSW Food Authority guidance, foods past their Best Before date are generally still safe to eat if they've been stored correctly and are not damaged, deteriorated or perished. You may notice some loss of peak freshness after the date.

Why some UK imports have shorter dates: Because these products are imported from the UK, international transit and manufacturer batch cycles can mean shorter remaining Best Before windows by the time they arrive in Australia. They're still perfectly fine to eat after the Best Before date (with proper storage and when the product shows no signs of spoilage).
